Student Affairs
Muir Student Affairs is comprised of Leadership & Involvement, Residential Life, the Middle of Muir, and our affiliated support services (CAPS and Success Coaching). We work directly with students to engage them with the college culture, advise the many student organizations at the college, and develop and implement college programs that foster education and engagement outside of the classroom. Most importantly, we are here to advocate for our students university wide.
Our Mission, Vision, & Values
Muir Student Affairs Mission Statement
We foster the Independent Spirit by facilitating an environment of identity development and inclusive opportunities, where students can thrive as their authentic selves.
Muir Student Affairs Vision Statement
Muir College Student Affairs will provide the premier undergraduate experience, supporting and developing thought leaders focused on a fully-immersed JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) lens. We will transform our programming, services, and physical space adapting to the needs of students with intersecting identities.
Muir Student Affairs Values
Inclusivity
To promote Inclusivity, we actively welcome a diverse community of students and staff, foster an environment that allows individuals to celebrate their authentic selves, and create a sense of belonging and community by hosting social and educational programs that focus on identity conscious, relationship-centered practices.
Equity
To promote Equity, we strive to ensure that all the members of the community are being treated fair, equally, and equitable, particularly for our underserved and marginalized student populations. We serve each student’s needs based on their identities, experiences, backgrounds and/or circumstances through individualized services and programs tailored to their needs.
Learning
To promote Learning, we foster a culture of sharing wisdom from lived experiences and knowledge from academic pursuits. All members of this community are both learners and educators. Having mutual respect for a variety of thoughts and opinions can help us expand our ideals and make progress in our personal growth and development.
Engagement
To promote Engagement, we empower students to both lead and collaborate in creating a vibrant atmosphere at Muir College. We foster an open community with dynamic opportunities for interacting and socializing through events and leadership opportunities.
Sustainability
To promote Sustainability, we strive to incorporate institutional practices that focus on minimizing our environmental impact, provide educational programs that enrich the lives of our community members, and educate them on how to advocate for a more environmentally just world.
Individuality
To promote Individuality, we recognize that each student has their own unique path at Muir College, and we support students to succeed in whichever journey they choose. We acknowledge and celebrate that each student has their own background, identities, and motivations. We individualize our services and programs to meet the needs where they are. In doing so, we encourage students to “Celebrate the Independent Spirit” in Muir College, at UC San Diego, and beyond.

Muir College has a robust range of student organizations, college committees (for planning traditional events and programs), and other leadership opportunities (including opportunities to work at the college) available for students.

There are many UC San Diego regulations, policies, and expectations that all students must abide by.
